Phenom launch: Reviews :D

Another questionable statement from Toms'. No another untrue statement from Toms yet again... :/

9770 works just fine on the X38 based chips and on some P35 boards as well. X48 if they didn't know is the exact same NB as X38 just cherry picked to overclock better since the X38s turned out to be lemons.

Either way I've stayed faithful to AMD for along time now, but its always good to tell the truth which is there's nothing AMD can offer you now that you can't get cheaper and faster from the competition. I Also believed them as they talked the talk but I can see that the Phenom isn't much better than two A64 X2s together so IPC is still lower than where Intel was 18month ago...

From the most successful CPU they ever made, to the worst state they have ever been in partly because they kept that same CPU for 5 years. :) Another example of how lame the leadership has been at AMD for years now. I'll take a look again maybe when AM3 boards come on an NVIDIA platform and maybe 1 or 2 revisions of the Phenom later... (That is 3GHz+)

Very disappointing by AMD...

Sh:pckG... U obviously know your cr ap:D

I was just a bit shocked.. Cause that would mean this P35 and X38 chipsets would be obsolete in a matter of couple of months...

As for my mobo...Its humming away at 1944FSB. Any chance my DS3P will get support in the future ?

yea shock thats what i have been saying all along, amd sat and did nothing in terms of updating and speeding up their cpu's for to long

only when core 2 came around did amd think they might need to do soemthing, then a year later they bring out a slower cpu :(

what a bunch of lamers

Time for AMD to wake up and smell the coffee :o

nope its to late for them man

that ship sailed long time ago

intel just keep driving the knife in deeper

Unfortunately AMD was under some suspicious leadership for a very long time. They didn't produce a new CPU for 5 years (since Athlon64 design) and that so happens to be the same length of time that the current CEO has been serving :/

Yep they most certainly do. Are they mad? honestly, AM3 chips will not work on AM2 boards. and if you buy an AM3 chip this current Am2+ platform will not do you any favors.

It is true that next year there'll be no more LGA 775 at about this time and our beloved 975/965 P35/X38 and X48 boards will go to the bin :/

If I were you, I would hope not. If that is the situation then you can expect to be ripped off for quite a while.

Thats not quite true. AMD were busy developing a new CPU and backtracked and restarted twice. Intel (because of their size) could afford to bankroll two separate teams.

There is a lot of nice architecture in the Phenom. Things should get really interesting in the next year or two. AMD also have a really nice roadmap (if they stick to it). Bang for buck, there is almost no difference between AMD and Intel so I will stick with AMD.

how is a 9500 phenom quadcore (thier lowest quad) going for 1999 yet intel q6600 is going 1949?

where is the bang for buck?

slower by some margin and more expensive? no bang for buck there

now the 9500 phenom is their lowest and it costs more than the q6600

imagine the 9900 that is still slower than the q6600 but it will be around 3k to 3.5k

bang for buck i think not

No bang for buck yet, but I'd give them a few months and prices will hopefully drop nicely. And I could buy a Phenom and put it in my current motherboard without a problem, if I had to buy a Core 2 Quad I'd have to buy a new motherboard and anything decent costs about a R1000....

That will change over the next couple of months. AMD is maybe not price competitive on Quads yet, but on the bang/buck note, the X2 6400 is faster then the Phenom's and that gives better bang for buck. The point I am trying to make is that Intel is whipping AMD in the top 20% of CPUs yet the perception is that it's across the board. I have been in this industry since 1987 and I promise you, we need a strong AMD, otherwise we all lose.
