Hi

Today I was trying to setup a client's phone to act as a modem so that she can use her Vodacom data bundles to access the internet off her laptop.

Upon connecting the phone to the laptop, it is instantly picked up as a storage device, but that is all.

Here are the specs:

Toshiba laptop running Windows XP (SP2).
Samsung SGH-F250
Samsung PC Studio 3 - version 3.2.1 GJ9
Samsung connection manager 3.2.1 GJ3

When plugged in, a message displays on the phone screen saying "connecting to pc", but nothing happens when running the suite. When I select file-->connect it doesn't pick it up.

Under installed programs (in add/remove programs in control panel), I can see that the USB drivers and modem drivers are installed, but when I look in device manager, I can't see the Samsung as a modem as a hardware device.

The phone itself doesn't seem to have any settings either.

Any suggestions - as always - appreciated :D

Look in the PC Studio there should be an option in there to connect to the internet?

Firstly service pack 3.
I know nokia have connectivity to switch from data to pc mode,
might be that with the samsung if it's a symbian and seeing
that xp's picking it up as a storage dev.
Then again some phones will only do internet through bluetooth and
not the usb cable.

Will take my bluetooth dongle to work tomorrow to test that.
Thanks for the SP3 recommendation.
Going to do a boot-scan tomorrow as well - maybe a worm/trojan is creating a conflict (Doubtful, but just in case).

Oh yeah. Did you get that bike?

bluetooth is easy for internet via the phone, but if the phone came with a cable and cd then it must work.On a samsung you have to tell the phone to be a modem or usb storage. It is in a menu on the phone...look again carefully

She threw the CD away (sigh).

Haven't tried with the bluetooth - will try tomorrow.

The phone doesn't give you an option after you've connected it (Unlike, say, a Sony Ericsson lets you choose between phone mode and storage mode).

You could download it (61Meg for the PC Studio).

It's not so much the PC studio that I want as much as it is the modem/USB drivers that would have come with the disk, nevertheless do you have a link for that download?
