Phone Options on a Budget?

What do you want to do with the phone? Game?
You already have a A32 that you say is slow. You not going to get a better new phone for R2500
Secondhand you can look at a iPhone SE 2020 for that price. Speed wise it will run circles around your A32, but it has a small screen and small battery, so not ideal if you want to game and watch Youtube the whole day. But its fast.
For that budget and maybe 3k you can get iPhone X too, bit slower, but still way better than your A32

to all the guys comparing a pre-owned iphone to a brand new android - why not rather compare it to a pre-owned android in the same bracket - i mean in another thread a forum member here offered someone an S22 ultra for free if he spent R5k to fix the cracked screen - and i reckon that the S22 ultra will be better in a vast majority of practical real life situations than a pre-owned old iphone SE .... BIGTIME (if you are willing to ignore geekbench results that iphones are optimized for as if that their only reason for existence)

To have the screen replaced will cost around R6k. If you take it to a Paki shop they'll put some cheap Temu LCD screen on there and scratch the phone up even furter and not seal it properly so waterproofing will be out the window. Not to mention all the wasted time in getting that done as well. The iPhone will get updates for 2 years still and another 3 years of security updates and you can just get on with your life.

Because his budget is 2.5k not R5k
For 5k he can get a pretty mint iPhone 12 used that will beat the S22 in any benchmark.

Now I'm tempted to go buy a new iPhone, spend a month jizzing all over it, then sell it to iStore. Because I know some idiot will buy it second hand. Every time they talk on my their phone, they can think about my jizz rubbing up on their ears...

None, that doesn't mean he must pay money for someone else's 5 year old leftovers. People need to temper their expectations based on their budget. Or save up for something faster...
