I'm looking for an affordable EDGE phone and did in fact found some, like the Nokia 6020 & 6101 which was mentioned somewhere in the forum. But what i would really like to know is if a cable to PC is included with these pop-port USB phones with no bluetooth. Because cables are very expensive a R1000.00 phone can easily become a R1300.00 phone.

Can someone please give me info on this?

The Nokia 6020 and the 6101 both use a DKU-42 cable which is a serial to USB cable! A better option is the Nokia 6111 which uses a DKU-2 and is true USB.

The DKU-42 is a pain to setup, you even have to setup the modem manually!

Sadly, nothing Nokia mid-range and below comes with a free cable!

However, a generic DKU-2 should not cost more than R110 at the very most! :)

Thank you very much JimM for this info and i will check the Nokia 6111's price.

The trade price is around R1500 you shouldn't pay more than R2000 and its a nice well built phone. As an added bonus it does have bluetooth facilities!

You do see them from time to time being sold second hand, but ensure that you're 100% happy with the seller. I'd want original box (with corresponding IMEI number on it) just to show that its no likely to become blacklisted.

Search around the stores as you often see them being sold under trade price (I assume they must buy lots to get a good price) and even if its Cell C, MTM, VM or Vodacom it will be unlocked to any network. You may have warranty problems if you buy say a MTN handset and use it only on Vodacom. So keeping the original pre-pay SIM and using it once in a while would get around this. ;)

Thx JimM, the best price i found so far is R1,950.00 at CaCell. I phoned Vodashop this morning and they told me that the E220 HSDPA\3G\EDGE modem's cash price is R2300.00. Maybe this is the best option??????

How about a Motorola V360? It has EDGE and bluetooth and seems to be sold almost everywhere for R999.

I can get the V360 at our local Pep for R945.00, but i'm not a Moto fan since i had a lot of problems with my V550 which was at the end replaced with the Moto L7 SLVR that i am using now. On this forum there's a few posts that makes me believe that the V360's EDGE is not what it should be.
