Oh wait - my point was that ya'll should feel sorry for me: I was the victim of a burglary. I see I got one vote, so it seems somebody was feeling sorry for me afterall :D

You don't have a case as nobody seems to know what a 'D80' is, and so nobody felt the need to chirp in your direction, just as they didn't feel the need to chirp in Apoc's direction despite him having the single most expensive combination of camera+lens of all the finalists (by a magnitude of 3.3x over the next runner up, no less!)

canon 550D vs n8 u can look yes there is places where the canon would be better but IMO theses look so much the same
 
Image on the right just needs that chromatic aberration corrected for and they're about the same. Obviously, the lens in use on the 550D has a large part to play in the final image, though. Anyway, isn't this the wrong thread for arguing about cameraphone vs dslr? :p

That and the iPhone 4S user had to have made a conscious decision to buy that specific phone unless it was given to them, they won it or it's from their work. In other words, they COULD have spent their money on a DSLR if they wanted to.

I'm probably just confusing myself here, so to outline it;

iPhone 4S user doesn't 'qualify' either because it's an expensive++ fashion accessory. There is no good reason why they had to choose it over another significantly less expensive phone and/or whatever they already had unless what they already had had some real, quantifiable limitations that impeded their ability to use the thing for their everyday life and/or work.

Had they gotten a less expensive smartphone that can still do absolutely everything the iPhone 4S can do besides burning as big a hole in their pocket, they could have afforded to get a DSLR or at least a decent bridge camera. Had they gotten the former, disqualification boat!

So, because the iPhone 4S stacks up in cost to DSLRs, it's their own fault, so disqualification boat!


And undesign, only if I'm explaining something, and primarily when I'm very tired. I get very chatty when I'm very tired.

*edit* EXIF for that iPhone photo shows no S, so now I'm confused. I know I saw an iPhone 4S among the entries in the competition's thread, though. Point pretty much still stands.
*edit2* EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM for the first 7D and Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM for the other. We've got us some fancypant charnas klapping it here hay.

So yeah, we've got some really hard hitters among the finalists. Don't see that guy that remarked on the 500D complaining about them :p

I suppose I could have used my Canon 550D when I took the photo. Or my Canon S95. But they weren't in my pocket when I was lying on the couch in front of the tv when I took that pic. :)

PS may have been a 4, I replaced it with a 4S and didn't bother to check which one it was. Sorry about that.

Hang on... does that even qualify then? The image is, with the exception of the pixelation from the TV, not yours in the least then... You're using someone else's image as your own.
 
Congrats to the finalists, some great shots, the Eiffel Tower of Dekert is my favourite with the Loftus synchronised swimming being impressive.

I am unable to vote for the iPhone photo, really not that impressive tbh.
I'm a bit surprised why Nicci is on 42 votes, the pic is not that impressive and rather static without any actual composition. Never discount the power of being one of the only women on the internet I say! :twisted:

I am just wondering why none of the other non-DSLR pics were not considered as finalists, there were some really good ones in this competition.

It's a pic of my wife's couch cushion. ;-)

There wasn't much pixelation when I uploaded it...

Well now you've left me further confused and skeptical. Take another photo of this cushion, prove you have it and that you didn't take a photo of a cushion on the TV! \D:</

Not that it'll matter much in the end since I doubt they could realistically restart the vote if they had to replace your entry with someone else's.

Yep. Suck it up guys. Those are the finalists and that's that. While Nicci's pic was good, I much preferred Krypty's, but then I think Nicci is probably the most deserving winner and I like that. I don't care who wins quite frankly, as at least I get to see some truly stunning pics.
