Judging from the cameras used to take the entries, the Canon 500D sure is a fine camera :D.

More seriously, except when one is bokeh-whoring, you can take most of these photos just fine with a compact camera that has a halfway decent lens on it and allows for taking photos in a raw format so you have the most processing leeway. If you absolutely have to take them in jpeg you're more likely to become limited to taking photos of things you can prepare for beforehand to essentially 'force' the camera to bend to your will, getting what you want rather than what the camera wanted.

Also, Polo786 your images aren't showing at all and are inaccessible for me via the links from quoting your posts.

*edit*As a quick addition to the point above, this was taken using an at-the-time cheapest you could get compact camera. Having a R100k combination of camera+lens would not have made the photo come out any better (aside from being sharper and a higher resolution) if I had taken it as a jpeg, as I had to do with that compact.

Aaaand now I feel like posting a few of my 2008 Japan trip snapshots.

One of many side streets I wandered through while in Kyoto - almost doesn't matter where in the city you are during the early morning or late afternoon, all the streets have this warm glow to them.

Fujifilm F70EXR

These pics came out almost B&W, and it wasn't from a setting on the camera or edits afterward... some kind of reaction of the sensor to the way the sun was shining perhaps?
