Ok so now that you have won...
Please upload the original pic please and then explain the details of the gear and editing that you've used.
The editing is very well done so I am intrigued! :D

Howdy Human ... I actually did post this on the 2nd page of the voting (cause I saw someone ask if it was even a real photo!)

However .. here are the details again :
Sony Alpha A100 (which is now a 5 year old camera - 10megapixels)
105mm @ F5.0
ISO 200
No Flash
1/50 second exposure

The only touch-up I did was to up the contrast a bit and dropped the brightness - but not much more (the contrast alone was enough to bring out the feather details on it's head and the colors are all there in the original picture)

Yes I was really THIS close to the birdy at the time - it also looks less cheesed-off in real life - you can gather the distance from the use of a105mm macro lens. If you look carefully at the original there is a little smudge in the top and bottom left corners - that is a fence I was taking the photos through .. (it is a little lost in the edited pic) I suppose, in hindsight, it was a little too close, cause the darn thing could have just gone "PECK" and then I'd be short a lens ! hehe

For interest sake - I've posted dump of the raw conversion of the pic

http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/data/500/medium/DSC00449.jpg

Oh - the aspect ratio is a little different, because the one I entered was actually a little stretched to fit as a desktop background (I just grabned it from my backgrounds folder and entered it)

Ah...yes that you did.
I see the difference is remarkable with the adjustment of contrast.
Good work.

I am more interested in the editing to be honest.
I do think that although a great camera can make a good difference. Good talent can make a great difference. :D

I really thought that picture of the firefly was an epic picture. Can't recall who took it.
Taking a picture like that takes massive amounts of skill and luck. Feel sad that that picture didn't at least get something :p

However the winner I fully agree with, that was an awesome picture of a Namibia winter's morning :)

Well done to all, not just the top three.

FredVL shows his absolute competence in many images, even without extensive PP, so it should come as no surprize that the "Southern Namibia" one was voted for so many times.

Other entries showed that many have a keen eye when it comes to composition, and were also ranked favourably.

Some did not feature, and I would urge them not to be discouraged. As long as you derive pleasure from your efforts, then your time is not wasted. If others derive pleasure too, then so much the better.

Lets see you all here next time.
