hi guys, i've got a little problem. i've got an icon of a picture on my desktop and I want to delete it. ****+delete doesn't work, delete doesn't work, safe mode doesnt work either. Does anyone know how I can delete this photo icon ?

Hmmm.

not sure why it's there or what it's from...
maybe spyware?
Have you tried a spyware tool?

Have you tried accessing the desktop with windows explorer:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\desktop

Delete it that way?

Same difference, delete it with unclocker :)
 
Strange, an icon that won't delete? mmmmm.......

Can you cut and paste it into another folder? then delete that folder?

it doesnt want to move in a folder either, it just sits there, oh, and when i open it, it says no preview availabe
 
can you right click on it - right click properties - make sure its not read only - delete
 
Since it doesn't have properties, it's most likely a "Namespace extensions" extension (e.g. "My Documents", "My bluetooth Places").

The only way to remove the icon is to unregister the DLL associated with the "Namespace extensions". When you double click the "photo icon" it'll open up a program, this program is most likely the owner of that namespace extension. Try uninstalling the program. Alternatively when the program is closed have a look at the "Windows Task Manager" and see if there are any "processes" that appear to be associated with the program. If there are, select the process and click "End Process", the icon should disappear if it's the correct process. Once you determine the location of the file, you can delete the relevant files. If you're unable to delete those files, "unlocker" may come in handy ;)

thanks for ur help, i tried unlocker didnt work, and it isnt a namespace extension. I checked my friends internet explorer and there were naughty addresses over there, it even has a strange name, something to do with xxx . wtf can i do to get this of my friends laptop ?? :confused: :'(

Unlocker won't remove the namespace but it will remove the files that run the namespace and hence remove the namespace.

What makes you think it's not a namespace? What opens when you double click the file?
