Photon quantum teleported from Earth to orbit

How do they know it was the same photon? LIttle buggers all look the same!
 
So, one of a pair of entangled photons is sent to the space station.
I'm struggling to see how this is teleportation.
 
How do you track a single photon in space from earth though

Like I said, I'm struggling to see how this is teleportation. That word suggests the movement of a physical object between two places without covering any ground in between.
And yes, I do know what quantum states are, and what entangled photons are. I just don't think the word teleportation fits very well.
Oh well, language. And I guess physics language may have moved on since I was active in the field. But once a grammer nazi..

Movement of information between two places without covering any ground inbetween, yes.

I'm pretty sure this system will ultimately be set up so as to produce near zero latency internet for everyone across the world.

*Shrugs*. New definition by me. But not a bad one.
 
They transmitted the state of the photon to its quantum twin, not the photon itself. It's not teleportation, but light-speed transmission of a single bit of data.

And we've had the ability to transmit much larger quantities of data at exactly the same speed for decades... you might want to look up this little concept called "radio waves".
 
The USS Enterprise was doing this back in the 70's already.
