Evening all.

Is there any sort of benchmarking that I can do for this program. A buddy of mine has a massive project to do and has asked to use my pc.
I don't mind, but he has a Mac laptop, not too sure what kind...
Would it really help him using my PC or not?

I just would like to know if there is any major difference i guess :D

Thank You

Dude if photoshop is running off your specs in your sig your pc will maul his mac laptop easily.

What hdd you running on that rig? Would surprize me if your only a normal 7200 rpm with those specs.

Yep, im afraid so.
Just waiting for some nice priced SSD's. Had a raptor and it broke "My Fault"

Yea i saw axiz having an amazing special on an intel SSD for 3999 ex vat.

Yea your system is crying out for a decent hdd :), those specs wow would be amazing on a raptor or ssd :).

You could bench the software using your eyes :), wait for both systems to load, open CS4 and see which is faster.

Than create a very high res jpeg and import it and then export it at maximum and see what is faster :).

Times are tough haha >.<
So there is no way of like doing a render or something to test? Ive never used PS before and have no idea what it can do...

I would suggest importing, just do what you do on both and you will see but i mean logically speaking i would be amazed if the mac laptop is faster, maybe if he had a mac desktop then i would give it a shot but laptops are generally limited compared to desktops, far more so than your 920 with 3 gb mem.

Rather make a psd with a res of 4000x4000 full color with 4 layers. Should be about 300mb (with the extend compatibility on). It will be a much better test :D

Well. I would. But I have no idea what that means :O Haha
Im so sorry.. Im a total noob!

I just noticed something... It does not pick up my graphics card? any ideas how to fix this?

Dude you can do all the tests you want but how is macbook with a 5400rpm going to go head to head with a 7200rpm and i7 hehe, let us know how badly the macbook gets raped :p

hehe? My macbook has a 7200 drive.

I'm not quite sure i understand the comments but why would everyone in the design industry use Macs when working in photoshop if a PC was more capable? Doesn't make sense.

No well serget this is a macbook vs an i7, laptops are not generally as powerful as desktops. If it was a desktop mac i would not be so sure it would lose. Mac uses intel now anyhow but the 8 core version i am sure would wallop anything the pc does haha.

Yea bwana like i said i do not know what machine he has so it can go either way :). Bwana would your macbook beat an i7 in cs4 do you think?

Ahhh alright i see! I was about to say... *hugs her g5* It's old but it's bootiful and has 2 gigs of ram. Nothing to sneer at :D

Without a doubt . . . as long as both machines were sitting in the middle of the veld. ;)

Seriously though - I think Adobe gave Windows a clear boost in Photoshop CS4 by making it 64 bit compatible. That said I do a lot of PS3 work on my MBP without any problems. I wouldnt trade the portability for a more powerful desktop PC or Mac.

Its not about the speed guys. The stabilty. Has anyone of you actually worked with the 64bit version. Crashes 57 times a day.

The stabilty on a mac is much better then on windows(when it comes to photoshop). I work with both os sytems.

I have realised If ps uses all 4 cores, its much slower then if I only allocate 2 cores for it(windows). Funny, but true. There are also tests (still looking for the link) where a Vista Pc with a single core beats a mac/Leopard driven by 2 cores in rendering.

There is a reason why the big design houses use Mac, its just an image thing :D

Found the link. Sorry, I was wrong. Its CS4 AE, but still.

Sorry i fear you have never worked on a 64 bit windows system then, i have used windows xp 64, vista 64 and windows 7 64, know many people who run 64 bit and i am not sure what your talking about crashing 54 times a day or even crashing at all.
