Pro tip: if your camera doesn't have fence removal then try reducing your aperture.
 
Guys, there was a fully grown male lion, I would rather the fence be there.

Next time don't be such a wuss. You can place the camera so that the fence doesn't get in the way(If lion is to close chuck some meat some distance away from the fence for it to go fetch), or start using the DoF properly :D
 
I was shooting lions through a fence just the other day - trick is to shoot as wide open as possible and get as close to the fence as you are able to - the closer together the links of the fence are the closer you want to be - even to the point that you remove your lens hood.
