Nonsense, no lambdas, what else is missing? No regional fail-over like Azure too. Azure was and still is the superior cloud choice for SA.

Did Pick and Pay state that they are doing everything in AWS Cape Town?

Just maybe they, and their consultants, have considered what they require and in which regions it is available, best pricing, high availability, all those nice things they sometimes think of when planning such a move.
 
If anyone knows of any South African Web services with a free tier I can test?

No they probably can`t use the local AWS because of the lack of some services and lack off regional redundancy. It is very obviously better to use a local cloud to run a local ecommerce business.

You are aware that they've done a Lift and Shift and not a rearchitecture... so things like Lambda are not required.

Also Azure in SA is not full blown by any stretch of the imagination, they're co-located services within other DCs.

They might have started their project before AWS South Africa met their needs.

AWS in South Africa is limited in other ways as not all the AWS services are offered to in South Africa. So it's a smart choice to run where all the services are available.

I believe fargate was delayed being ready in South Africa for a while, as well as AWS Marketplace having region restrictions with many images.

Yes so I am just saying that Azure was and still is the better choice because it is a fully fledged local cloud service with local regional redundancy and have been operating for years in SA already.
