Pick n Pay migrates IT infrastructure to AWS

Pick n Pay has migrated its entire on-premises information technology infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The retailer worked with Lemongrass Consulting — an AWS premier consulting partner with migration and SAP consulting competencies — to complete the migration and implement a modern SAP HANA platform.

Does AWS have infrastructure in SA? Or does all traffic go outside our shores?

They are probably just copying Checkers who also uses AWS. No there is no AWS data centres in SA, so everything goes offshore. The better choice would be to use Azure, but I guess they are just as dumb as Checkers.

Yes they do I think 3-5 Centre in CPT, they not marked for security purposes. I was at one before.
Picture of one AWS centre's in cpt, but nothing on google maps, but did visit this one.

So... they will be hosting their entire IT infrastructure on a system owned and operated by a competing retailer? Hmmm.

AWS can give you EC2 instances in Cape Town:

My brother in Christ, they have had a data center here since April 2020

We have products on both AWS and Azure. AWS is the superior product by a long shot IMO. Azure is for companies that have deep throated Microsoft and cannot get out of it.

Since when? And this is just 1 type of cloud service. If it was possible to do this locally then why is all Checkers` AWS stuff in Ireland and Germany? No, the better choice is to use the full blown Azure cloud that have been up in JHB for years already. Even has local fall over to Azure CPT.

No they have more than just EC2 available in Cape Town.

I assume some use offshore because AWS only has the one local region.

My unholy lord almighty, you do know that Azure was 100% up in SA long before then, and that Checkers chose offshore AWS over local Azure when there was no local AWS.
But we are in 2022, the year of our Lord and Saviour, where there is a perfectly functioning AWS region in the country.

Remind yourself that he cannot read, it will make things easier responding to him going forward...
