Is the per song download fee on PICK AND PLAY affordable?

When they move up to decent bit rates they could be worth considering. But then our local data costs become even more of an issue.

And this is all dependent on my being able to block or strip any attempted DRM.

Sorry for that... shoulda mentioned that I was looking at the Top 20 albums. I used Stadium Arcadium (±$5)x20. Seems you're more likely to get the Top 20 albums for around $50. Darn,... what a horrible deal.:rolleyes:

Sorry but the idea of having to go back and listen to ads month after month otherwise running the risk of having the tunes disabled. No thanks - I'll pay my 99¢. :)

Of course; the correct model, as has already been mentioned, is always something cheaper and better supported by the majority of media players. But it's nice to have variety, and in comparison to PnP's rather poor offering, I'd be happy to ignore... uh, I mean, click, a few ads every now and then, certainly for the purposes of trying before buying.

Indeed, and there seems to be a lot of confusion floating around on the net at the moment about just how they're going to implement this "ad support".

It's one of those ideas that if executed well will be excellent, but if executed poorly (and let's be honest, the music industry doesn't exactly have a shining track record in digital content distribution) will be just another big ol' waste of time, money, and resources that'll sink without trace in six months. It should be fun to watch, either way ;)

Please resend the link to them. Then they can read this post and realize how bad their comment section is. I tried replying to them through their site, but it stalled and never got past opening and closing the tiny, tiny feedback box on the left. I got fustrated and decided to never really return to the site.

Oh, and never got to the FAQ section either, but heard it is almost offensive.

I hope they do wake up and smell some roses, but I doubt it. They will have had the usual corporate MBA twits who did a bit of "market research" which they will believe way ahead of comments on this forum. AFAIK from other threads it is perfectly permissible in terms of our copyright law to download music for your private use, so they are effectively competing with a cost-per-track of R0-00c over and above the bandwidth cost. That's a hard sell. Being rude in your FAQ doesn't make it any easier.

My solution

I can't even get onto the site right now, in both IE or Firefox? But from what I read here, I won't even bother. It's about time we had a proper online music service being iTunes and Napster don't work here, but looks like Pick n Play blew it.

Here's how I get my music online legally for about half the price of a CD at Musica. Go to msn.co.uk and click on music downloads. Register and shop away, even though it says available in UK only, I have bought with no problems using my Amex card.

Ok, so the tracks are in WMA with DRM. In WMP burn them to CD, which makes a normal audio CD, then I use iTunes to convert the CD into ACCTRAC for my iPod. The best of all worlds for about half the price, (depending on the exchange rate).

A company I work for tried - but the recording labels do not help in any way or kind. For a small company to try this is completely impossible unless you have the backing of millions. Also, the correspondents from the various recording labels are the most rude people I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. It will take a very big company with fresh and good ideas (and a big bankroll) to get it going, or a few more years for us as we try to get the investors inerested.

lol,about time that OLD site gets a revamp...

Maybe next time there will be a 'Under new Management' sign or something on the site.
