Hi all,

So I've recently had my VW Polo stolen for the 2nd time in 6 months and have decided to get a new car. In a perfect world I'd go and get another Polo - I love them - but sadly I'll have to get something else from a safety POV.

My budget is max R220k and what is key to me is a comprehensive maintenance plan (preferable 5yr / 90 000km). All I want to have to care about is the monthly repayments and tyres.

I've been looking around and am trying to decide between a Demo Mazda 2 1.5 with maintenance plan or a demo New Generation Hyundai i20 1.4. The other option is a 2nd hand Audi A1 with 2 years / 50k maintenance plan.

Any recommendations / suggestions or things to note on these vehicles would be appreciated!

The i20 is being sold in the UK with their new 1.0T motor.
I'll hold on with that one until they bring the motor to SA.

I'm looking at 2nd hand / demo models - you think their price would drop once this one is released?

Probably not!

The current 1.4 is a great car though and quite a good looker.
The only issue will be parts...

My crank sensor as I've found out this week, has melted.
Apparently it will take a month for the new part to arrive from Korea.

One would expect them to have started keeping parts readily available in SA since they started selling so many of them locally.

That is a bit dissapointing... I haven't gone for a test drive but I'm interested to see how it goes.

Do you have the new gen 1.4? Do you have a maintenance plan with it?

I have the previous gen 1.4 Diesel and yes I do have a maintenance plan (which is about to end)
I've driven the new 1.4 though which is why I could comment about it :)

people on MYBB hate it for no apparent reason, other than it looks like SH@T

honda brio, hatch/ sedan.....

people are set in their ways it seems, yes there a lot of cars out there,
but as the advert says, besidedes the looks that maybe a bit  why not the Honda?
if it bother you that much get the sedan.........

Have a look at Opel Corsa (similar size etc) The engine is quite brilliant. 86Kw, 170Nm 1.0 Turbo. Service plan is 3 Years 60 000KM.
The enjoy (slightly better spec than entry level) is R230k

I'll have a look. Only issue is that it's a service plan not maintenance so will have to probably add R20K for that

Also, be on the lookout, the new astra is almost here, probably the next week or so. Very nice, won european car of the year, the entry level model will start at about R250k, same 1.0T engine as the Corsa.
Might be worth stretching your budget ?

Thats R250k excluding maintenance plan whereas OP was looking at spending max R220k all inclusive.
That's quite a big stretch

Unfortunately I really can't stretch. I like the look of the Corsa, will have a look tomorrow. Will be interesting to see how much they charge for a maintenance plan. Most of the car companies charge R20k for the 5yr / 90 000km one
