PICO projectors

Whatever happened to the PICO projector technology and all it's promises. Apparently the idea was that you would be able to display up to a 100" in HD without having to refocus the unit and it would be available in all cellphones. Has anyone ever used a PICO projector and how does it compare to a normal projector?

I saw a few Pico projectors on special over the last few months - an indication that they did not sell well. Not sure if there is a need for a projector in a mobile phone...
