Picostation (AP) to ADSL router Help needed.

Finally got adsl sorted after a remarkably short time considering how bad Telkom can be.

The equipment is as follows
Billion W40 Wireless router connected to DSL line
Picostation 2 (can act in several modes, like station, bridge, access point etc)

Would like to connect the picostation to the router so that everyone in the house can access wireless full strength.
I have followed the instructions from page 4-6 of this guide

I changed the following points though

IP Address: Instead of 10.10.10.253 I used 192.168.1.250
Gateway IP: 192.168.1.254 (from the router)
Primary DNS IP:192.168.1.254

Set the clients (pc's themselves) to Auto-assign

Haven't go any changes in signal strength though, so don't think the settings are correct as the Picostation has quite a good range.
I tried searching the forums but couldnt readily find any posts that actually answered the question fully.

Its ADSL, and DSL, not ADLS or DLS.

What kind of info do you need?
Need the AP to connect to the router and give the range of the wireless signal a boost. The link provided is pretty clear on what the Picostation can do.

Do you need client-side detail? Imagined it wouldn't be relevant, but for your information there will be 2 PC's always needing to connect, with the odd mobile device requiring access too. No client will connect via ethernet to the router (ie all devices to connect via wireless).

I would set it up as a Simple Wireless AP with Bridge networking (as described in that PDF). I would also enable WPA2 security.

Since you're going to "bridge" your ADSL router and your Wireless network with the Picostation, the ASDL router would assign the IP addresses with its DHCP server and all the network devices would be on the same LAN. Then there should be no difference between connecting via wireless or via cable, except for the speed difference.

The Picostation needs to be connected to a LAN port on the ADSL router, but you may configure it by connecting a PC directly to it.

I'm not sure exactly what you want to know still, since the whole setup is explained in detail in that PDF!

Thanks for the info. By the looks of things the Billion W40 router doesn't support WDS, so what I'm trying to do isn't possible. As you observed, the PDF's instructions would have yielded the desired result were it not for the lacking WDS support...

Sorry, I misunderstood you.

I thought you wanted to extend your wireless range by hooking up the Picostation to your ADSL router via LAN cable and then let people connect to the Picostation. WDS is meant for bridging 2 or more wireless networks together, like where you have an array of WiFi hotspots.
WDS is where your Wireless AP switches between being an Access Point and being a Client at a very short interval.

I would still try to do as I suggested, by linking the Picostation with a cable to the ADSL router.

Hi Pada,
Oh I see. You had me right the first time. I was mistaken as to what WDS was used for. I did try the configuration above, but the picostation wasn't transmitting at all by the looks of things. I will try it again over the weekend and see what the results are then. Thanks again mate!

What I would like to check is :
Are the IP settings I chose above OK? (Am I correct in saying the AP should NOT be given the same IP as the router)
Should I put in the WPA security key in the picostation's config as well, or is leaving it blank as per the pdf ok?
