Springbok scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar reportedly turned down a €60 000 (R800 000) per month deal with French Top 14 giants Toulon.

Pienaar earlier this week signed a three-year contract extension with Irish club Ulster.

Pienaar was previously linked with a move to Heineken Cup champions Toulon, but the 29-year-old, who joined Ulster in 2010, has now extended his stay Ravenhill until 2017.

According to the Irish Independent's website, Pienaar turned down the massive offer after discussing the move with his wife and declaring that he would prefer to remain in Belfast where he has settled with his young family.

"I am delighted to be staying at Ulster," Pienaar told AFP.

"I have really enjoyed my first three seasons at the province and I am looking forward to helping the team compete for silverware in the coming years."

Pienaar has represented the Springboks in 71 Tests, most recently their Rugby Championship defeat against the All Blacks at Ellis Park.

Bliksem!

Wonder how much Ulster is paying him?

And people in SA still treat him like a second rate rugby player. He's been off his game a little, but this sort of form is good news for us...

But why is he so hot and cold when playing for us, or freezing like in last year's Rugby Championship...? :/

He has talent, but the problem is that his delivery as a Scrumhalf is too slow.

I think he is a great choice on the bench for a utility back for the Bokke.
