Pierre Marais was appointed as the acting Managing Director of the Telkom Group's Data Centre Operations business unit on 1 August 2009. Previously he served as Group Executive for Network Core Operations.
He joined the former Department of Posts & Telecommunications in 1977 as a Pupil Technician and steadily climbed the corporate ladder until he became Telkom's Managing Executive for Core Network Operations in 2003. From 2006 to 2007, he served as the Managing Executive for Network Infrastructure Provisioning, before becoming Group Executive for Network Core Operations in 2008.
He has a distinguished 32-year track record in the telecommunications industry. Academically, Pierre obtained his Honours in B.Eng (Electronics) and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) qualification from the University of Pretoria.
