Pilchard curry

Tinned fish breaks up really easily so you don't cook it like a normal curry. The curry sauce is made first, and usually a little sweeter than usual, with some apricots chucked in for good measure. Then the canned fish goes in whole, last, just to warm through...

Im pretty sure that extras will include chillies...... fresh cloves of garlic and tamarind.

It has to have that sweet-sour kick.....

Lots of fresh herbs will complete the dish.

/edit. im a vegatarian but i know my curries .....:D

DJ and Singh, thanks.

The recipe I got requires onions to be fried, then add turmeric and garam masala and garlic and ginger. Add potatoes and water and cook til soft. Add pilchards from tin. Finish off with coriander and yogurt.

Fry some onions, garlic, green peppers. Add a can of All Gold Indian-flavoured tomato mix and then add the Pilchards.

I just buy the pilchards in brine and chow it like that. You can always make a salad - chop some onions and chillies and mix it in.

Yeah, tamarind, coriander, cumin, fenugreek, cloves, star anise, mustard seeds, fennel seeds, cinnamon, chillis, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, more chillis, maybe a dash of coconut cream, apricots, fish, coriander leaves, salt and fried chillis. The basics for a good fish curry...

I love canned curry fish.

Pity it's so expensive. Basically R40 for a mid sized can. :(

Yes, the onions. I forgot the onions in mine. Definitely onions. Plenty of them. I'd skip the potatoes entirely although some people love them in curries. I do too but not in fish curries.

Sounds like an okay recipe. I'd skip the water and use canned tomatoes instead and if doing so, there will be enough acidity, so no need for the yoghurt. Use coconut cream instead...

^^^^^^

- potatoes.

Its has to have the tomatoe look about it.

when 90 % done just add some extra onions on top before the greens....

Crunchy..... yummy :D
