Ping shoot-out - UUnet vs SAIX

LOL. oh im on SAIX btw.. and i download about 15+GB per month, i only go online in callmore time.. which costs me.. R220 for line, R150 for isp, R70 for infinitcall, R7 x 4 x 4 (64k each weekday) = R112, R14 x 4 = R56 (128k each weekend).. Total: R596.. still expensive but atleast it doesnt work out to R300 per gigabyte :P
 
Down side u have to wait until 7 every evening. Plus with ISDN if your PC crashes then your connection is cut. And what happens if you don't call in call more time then see how the bill rockets, I speak from experience :D

Check telkom's website, infinitcall isn't capped at R7 anymore, it's R8 something now. Hence why they changed the name of the package.

If you take their new DSL192 option, with a UUNET uncapped account. You'd pay R400 more, but be connected 24/7 and be able to download alot more than 15gig I can tell you...

If you're going to get UUNET uncapped you might as well get DSL384. Its R120 more but twice as fast so you'll download twice as much.

Wait, I'm starting to sound like a salesman. Oh well, you get the picture...
 
It's all very well to be download "faster", but it doesn't help with the cap. The latency on ADSL is also **** right now.

Same server that br34k was pinging:

220 vs 520 :/ think i'll pay R400 less and stick with 15 gigs for now, lol.. i hope the SNO will shine some hope upon this troublesome situation
 
heck, with uunet local/international gets shaped the same, but telkom adsl is totally unshaped local, and only gets shaped the moment it goes international, which is a + for them. (normal 3gb accoubts)

but i think right now uunet is a huge fookup

Everyone should redo the math exams in this forum. That would be R300 btw.
 
Currently (4:30pm Sunday 13/03/05) I'm getting 30-40ms locally, 300-350 internationally and 0 packet loss. Comparing to yesterday I was getting 190-1400ms locally, 700-3000ms internationally with lots of spiking and packet loss. I wonder if they finaly upgraded the lines?
