hi all

I've been reading various posts, and I see the odd ping time here and there. Now it doesnt say if it is US/EU server... and what internet connection...

So I thought I'd start this thread so ppl can post there stats here.

From what I know the ping response is the big issue here, and not the actual speed of the line?

I have a 4 Mbps connection (ADSL with telkom) and I have two accounts, one with Cybersmart and one with Webonline. I play the EU version, and I get between 600ms & 800 ms. Sometimes it goes up to 1000ms. Is this normal? (no other activity on the line)

Im thinking of getting some kind of unshaped line, maybe this will lower my ping times?

Generally I get between 600 and 800 on my 4mb for a normal shaped saix account.

IS semi-shaped it drops to 300-400 :)
 
I get around 500ms on my shaped EU account...on unshaped it drops to 200-250. That's from Imaginet and I-Junction respectively.

Using wireless 3g/hsdpa with E220 modem from MTN.
Getting pings from 380-1500 sometimes heavy lag spikes.
been bad this last month.
Normally its 380-600
 
4meg webafrica unshaped - 225 - 300 - i also use the registry hack
 
I dont know how everyone gets these low pings.
I am on WA unshaped and normally get 400-500.
Shaped 600-800.
Thats with the reg hack.
4mb adsl..
 
Hmm, maybe we should filter in also a variable of RAM, CPU, Gfx.

Reason - My laptop while has a good processor, loads and lags significantly more than my pc at home, even over lower latency lines (I get 160-220 at work).

Thats got NOTHING to do with your pings or connection thats 100% slow pc just check FPs but i keep it short dont wana derail topic here open new post for Frames per second and pc specs ?

Making yet another thread will not solve your problems. Get an unshaped prepaid test it out (Webafrica should can get you 1GB unshaped for under R100).
In South Africa the best latency to Europe is 180-250ms ping and 220-300ms ping to the US. This can be on 56k modem up to 4mb line.
I get 340ms on my 56k modem, but it have some severe packet losses. And 320ms on my 4mb line with almost no packet losses. To EU servers.

Search this forums or other wow forums for detail on the wow registry hack/fix. It reduces could reduce your latency significantly, it have been discussed before, use the search function. People with shaped connections have reported sub 500ms pings...

Well, I run WoW on a 2.4 P4 with 1gigs of DDR-400 and I get the same pings as my other machine...

I have run two copies of wow on the same machine and both reported different pings ;) 290ms on the one and 320ms on the other.
But slower PC's tend to lag out in crowded zones, resulting in huge lag spikes that can cause your average ping to go up.

I dont recall ever asking people to "solve my problems". Please dont make assumptions.

This is a very friendly forum, so dont go and spoil it with comments like that! :eek:

Regardless, I find your info very useful, so thanks for your input. Just so you know, I had already contacted my ISP BEFORE I posted this thread, this purely for informational purposes, giving other users on this forum the chance & opportunity to compare latency speeds.

Putting my ping in:

260ms stable (280ms while i'm alt-tabbed-browsing) on Lightbringer EU (High pop) on my home network (2 laptops also web browsing).

This is on a 4mb Axxess (SAIX) unshaped line.

Not trying to assume anything, just made an observation. There are some real detailed discussions on exactly this topic. It tends to re-appear every 2-3 months. It is valid questions you are raising, and ofc you want us to help you out with some comments etc. I just feel that the answers you are looking for are there already. Without the need to start a thread requesting people's ping and latency, I recall 3-4 threads over the last year doing exactly that.
Do a little search on the topic and I am sure any of us that have solved this problem will be happy to assist you to improve your latency.
