Hi

I moved recently to a new home, at old home i ping 35 to cape town about. now at new home (installed adsl yesterday) i ping between 50 and 150 if i do a few tests.

Can i let telkom come back and check (for free)?

The jitter is very high where it was always 0 or 1


What stand me to do?

traceroute to something like www.google.co.za. from your machine ping the ip of the hop after your router for about 20 pings. make sure (if you can) that no other traffic is running over the line at the same time.
I would expect a ping of >50ms or so. if its much higher or there is huge variation I would suspect other traffic running on the line or a line issue that should start with u fidling with cables your side and if that has no effect talk to Telkom to test your line.
Tell them why you suspect its the cable from your house to your pole or dp(?)
 
Good luck trying to explain ping or latency to them. They havent got a clue. I have had 8 technicians and 2 experts come to my property to sort out my latency issues.....sometimes reaching 8000ms. Yup..8000ms.

Still the problem is yet to be fixed. Been 6 months now. Reporting every second day. Hellopeter complaints etc etc.

The one technician actually thought ping was the password to my pc. No jokes. And this is an adsl technician.
