I just downloaded their pricelist and what i'd like to know is if you register at dealers (not only pinnacle) as a sole proprietor, do you HAVE to have a VAT reg number?

No, but then they will probably offer you cash only terms.

Nope without a Vat reg number they will not help, you can ask for an order on the side and try your luck but they will not sign you up.

The reason is tons of people can just rock up saying they are sole traders when all they want is a couple things a year.

darn it! I'm one of those "people" lol

You have to have a company number as a sole prop that reflects your business as being in IT, you don't need a VAT number.

You register with SARS and Ethekwini council ( Durban metro ) I'm not sure on the details as I got my accountant to do the dirty work.

You do realize that PCZOne sells stuff cheaper than what you can get it from a disti???

Or you could just go to Axiz, say you are from PC Extreme (or some other shop, computer extreme or Business solutions; any name that has a high chance of being registered), and pay with your credit card (my friend used to do this all the time ;) )

Pc zone does not have a wide variety of products and everything is limited to a 1 year warranty through them, so after the 1 year is over you deal directly with the manufacturer

with distis you just deal with them the whole time iirc

1 year warranty? So what if the product has a 3 year warranty on it? That doesn't sound quite legit.

You can do it, all you need is to open a business bank account in you personal capacity trading as xyz. People will be suprised to know that in November 2009 the government will stop the creation of all new cc's and then over the next 10 years phase them out completely..

You will have to open a audited PTY(ltd), although there will be 3 types of private company now, so pinnacle will have to get used to the fact that there will be alot more sole traders..
