Piracy and music sales

Rampant piracy and a crumbling market for CDs has put the music industry in Asia under immense pressure, but experts are hoping that technology and social media will help fill the gap.

heard it all before, give me a decent platform from which to purchase my music online in SA and I will use it...but currently dont see any that catches my fancy

Nokia Music Store? It seems okay, the prices are a bit stiff though, but I have not bought anything yet.

If you have a nokia.

lousy DRM voids it in my opinion, I dont want to be told on which devices I can play my music, makes the ilegal mp3/ogg copies easily found on countless sites starts looking really enticing.

Copyright exists to give the creative types an incentive to create their works; if downloading music for personal use was legal there would still be an incentive, it would just come from other things (live shows etc.).

So why do we accept paying for music again?

:erm:

Becuase you did not make that music?

CD`s suck... seriously. MP3 is the new format. Get over it already. Betamax died also.

I think they are moaning about the way they are being paid for the MP3 downloads that are happening.

The person who created that music usually sees little to nothing of that incentive in any case. It's all sucked up by the middleman.

Artists make their money from performing.

Make it easier to purchase music and I'll start buying...as long as it's really cheap.

Same ol same.
Music industry is lagging behind technology!

I have been using getmo for two months now, and their music content is great. Sure there is DRM, but I have had no issues with that at all. Secondly the DL speeds which I am getting off getmo are freaking silly fast. I recently deleted close on 250Gb of full album tagged music, to head the legal route, and getmo has provided this at a good cost. I am up to close on 20Gb of legal music.

How the hell could you have no issues with drm? :erm:

How much do you pay and how can you not hate DRM?

Look, I fully agree DRM has added annoyances, specifically the whole portable device limitation. At the same time though getmo stores my download history, which I consider proof to my legal holding of the track in question. So when I need the stuff on iPod I just remove the DRM and bobs my uncle. In my mind thats still better than doing it the completely illegal route.

GetMo is R60 pm, unlimited downloads within your cap. Uncapped FTW :P

What is the cheapest uncapped internet atm anyway?

I've been lurking on hardware, off topic and gaming for too long ;)
