Piracy site doubles hits after raid

lol - nothing like free advertising.

Anyway, just goes to show how counter-productive the whole "piracy" issue is. Product placements and "banner" ads in movies and tv shows would mean that producers would WANT people to download their stuff as much as possible. Nothing like hanging onto an idea long past its time...

The Internet and some entrepeneurs hand media companies a new p 2 p content delivery system and all they do is try shut it down....

idiots !

Thing is, the industries have yet to realise the simple economics...

If you sell 10 000 DVD movies at $199 you make $1 990 000
If you sell 100 000 DVD movies at $40 you make $4 000 000

And guaranteed that if you sell your DVDs at a lower price, you'll get rid of more units. The example I've given isn't even realistic... prices should be slashed to very little. Money can be made from the companies who want product placement. Hell, you can even put in subliminal messages as far as I'm concerned.

Scenario 1: Charge R700 for Series 1 of some TV show and sell few copies. Lots of handling, etc etc

Scenario 2: Charge nothing for the TV Show, distribute it by P2P, news groups etc, include product placements and banner ads, and sell advertising space.
No mess, no fuss, only deal with ad execs at Nike, Coke, ABSA etc etc

duh!

EDIT: We already know the market wants 2, otherwise we would not have P2P sites, torrent sites and usenet...

If I had bandwidth, I would pirate movies, without blinking, just to get rid of the adds, telling me not to pirate.

Sounds like the R5 million advertising campaign that Telkom embarked on to publicise Hellkom :D

I wouldnt be surprised to hear that allofmp3 was also enjoying the same boost.

@MaD - you just cant buy that sort of advertising. :)

You'd think people would learn someday...

Grudge Matches
---------------

Telkom Vs. Hellkom : Winner - Hellkom
SAB Vs. Laugh it off: Winner - Laugh it off
UIP, Miramax, Hollywood Vs TPB: Winner - The Pirate Bay

Seriously. If evolution were applied to companies we'd have maybe 5 worldwide.

HAHA, love it!

I agree re the economics of the industry. It's like the economics of telecoms. Decrease prices and you increase the size of the pie. Simple! Mr Molotsane, pay attention!

Debbie2 is spot on. Look at Telkom - they spend millions strangling the economy to hold onto a small piece of the pie - and then, in the background, cell companies eat into their subscriber base, and municipalities build their own networks..... SMRT
