Symantec have announced that it has filed a series of eight civil lawsuits against distributors of counterfeit Symantec software, seeking a total of more than $55 million in damages from the cases involved.

Microsoft have already started to venture down this path with their Starter Edition which according to the resident techie in the MyADSL office is “really crap” but on the up side it costs only $3. Although the product was launched in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia in 2004 it has only just hit our shores, in April this year to be exact.

Been playing with and selling Starter Edt (XP) since last year. Yeah, it is seriously chopped off at the elbows, but it was designed for people wanting to punch out a Word document and maybe use Encarta or surf the web.

Definitely for more advanced users, nor networks.
