Someone must have been on the receiving end of the messages or calls so why is that person or persons not speaking up then?

A girl or a guy in a locked toilet in the early hours of the morning with a phone is either using up their Vodacom Night Shift free minutes or calling a lover/friend or for a very serious reason.

It throttles attempts (ie, wait x minutes before trying again) and if you persist it locks hard and needs to be connected to iTunes to recover.

The phone itself has a number of protections against this, however how Apple solves this in cases where they are ordered to by the courts is hook up the phone to some special hardware that boots it with a different firmware that allows them to bypass those protections and brute-force the code.
