Depends where you go. Some areas are pretty nice. Main Road Walmer is an up and coming area nowadays.

And whether or not can deal with the wind.

And the Vaalies for the month of December.

Nothing dodgy about that area, but watch out for potholes. They seem to be making an effort dealing with them but it's like playing Whac-A-Mole. There are a couple of restaurants in Seaview with nice decks that you might enjoy.

There's a road house type restaurant at the main beach in PE with a kiddies pedal car track which has decent food and the track keeps the kids entertained.

Also a fish and chips place at the harbour which is really popular.
No idea of any of these places names though, sorry.
