Hi,

Would placing things like consoles, their power bricks, ADSL routers and just about any other hardware that heats up onto ceramic tiles decrease their chances of overheating ? I have a few ceramic tiles left over from tiling the kitchen recently and I was thinking of doing the above to keep things cooler, would it work or could it possibly make the situation worse? At present all the consoles (360, PS3, Wii, PS2) and their power bricks are on a wooden shelf and the power bricks for the ADSL routers are on a carpeted floor.

Any advice would be appreciated.

don't think it would hurt... then again... I don't think it would help much either. Rather increase the ventilation in the room.

Your best bet would be to raise them up a little so that air can pass underneith, but mostly I doubt it would do any difference. Hot air rises anyway, just don't conceal them cupboards with closed doors.

And don't stack things ontop of one another unless you know what you're doing :)

Just stick what ever you need in the freezer, as long as its frozen it cant get wet..that is a sure way of keeping something as cool as can be

Logically it should work depending on the amount of area that makes contact with the tiles.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Thing is, I don't really want to spend cash here, I just had some extra "cool to the touch" ceramic tiles left and thought that I may be able to put them to some good use. Thank you for the links.

why do u have all those consoles? lol
Well, I normally play games on my consoles, I figured that was their primary function. I stand to be corrected though. :p

Does your power bricks overheat though?
No, they weren't overheating at all, I just figured that it would be better to be safe than sorry. Just wanted to contribute more toward my cooling solution here.

I doubt this would do much. I doubt you'll notice a difference moving from wood to tiles, maybe from carpet to wood/tiles would make a difference. All I do know is never put it on a bed :p

The tiles are a better idea than carpet due to fire issues, I don't think it'll affect the temp tough.

Open a window & make sure the air around it is moving at least a little bit..;)

No need for that, I have a super aircon here that can turn my gaming room into a winter wonderland :)

And carpets could clog up little wholes in the bottom of the console
