National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Luvuyo Mfaku said Gordhan's refusal to apply for a review would not affect the process.

"If the national director decides to review on the basis of their (the co-accused) representations and say I am not proceeding with prosecution, automatically for all three it applies," Mfaku.

South African journalists are facing their most serious threat since the persecution of the apartheid regime. The governing African National Congress is proposing new laws that would make it illegal to leak or publish information deemed classified by the government, with the offence punishable by up to 25 years in jail. The ANC wants to create a media tribunal to regulate journalists' work.

The ANC contends that self-regulation has failed and that it can point to numerous news stories that were intentionally damaging to subjects' reputations and dignity.

"The media that say this is a restriction on us, we are the watchdog of the people – they were never elected," Zuma said last week. "They need to be governed themselves because at times they go overboard on the rights."

From what I have read the court can reduse to withdraw the case.
This case MUST go ahead to sort Zuma and his henchmen out.
It will also give them a taste of whats to come for them.
But the younger people surely must know they must survive after their protector is gone. Are they stupid?

Amid reports that National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head advocate Shaun Abrahams has decided to drop the fraud charges against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan the prosecuting authority has announced it's holding what it calls an impromptu press conference at ten thirty this morning.

Over the weekend it was claimed Abrahams had decided to withdraw the charges against Gordhan former Sars commissioner Oupa Magashula and former deputy Sars commissioner Ivan Pillay.

The decision to lay the charges has led to a huge outcry from civil society amid claims that Abrahams was making decisions for political reasons.

In a two line statement the NPA says simply that the national director of public prosecutions is inviting the media to an impromptu media briefing at ten thirty this morning.

It says the briefing will be held at its headquarters in Silverton.

But over the weekend more reports emerged that Abrahams was preparing to drop the charges against Gordhan, Magashula and Pillay.

Two weeks ago, advocate Nazeer Cassim told eyewitness news that he had received a fair and proper hearing when he had made representations to Abrahams, telling him that the charges against Pillay should be dropped.

But if Abrahams does withdraw this case, he's likely to be strongly criticised for having allowed the charges to be laid in the first place and could face claims he's not competent and should resign.

He has no choice but to drop the charges. And that will open the door for those that want him to be fired for incompetence.

And I hope The Finance Minister then lays personal charges against him for slander and whatever else his lawyers can come up with.

That is my thought on this as well..

30 minutes to an hour of waffling about the "rogue unit" and blah blah blah, and then add more unrelated charges...

You could be correct.
The NPA crony could suspend (not withdraw) the fraud charge, and announce that they're continuing their investigation (intimidation) of Gordhan's involvement in the Sars rogue unit.
They've got to save face and their position at the trough.
