Hehehe except for the ultra that is almost exactly the rig i will be getting! Very funny indeed;) Are you planning on overclocking you pc at all or only at a later stage?
 
Get 2x Hard Disks (1 additional) and run RAID 1 across them for redundancy
And add 2GB additional memory

That's all I'd add.

I prefer RAID5, but you need a minimum of 3 hard drives :o

I don't see the point of 4GB RAM (right now) myself. I have 2GB memory and the most that has ever been used on my PC is 98% when I played Oblivion at max settings and resolution, listened to Winamp and had about 15 windows (such as Firefox) open at the same time. This only happened once, though...
 
And unless you are using 64bit vista you cannot use all 4 gb anyways.So if you're gonna be running 32bit vista i would stick with 2 gb which should suffice.

Stay away from 64-bit Vista right now (trust me, I used it for a while) :sick:
 
Yup i think i'll hold off from vista until sp1 is released early next year.
 
I will be running XP and Vista both, still deciding if I should install both on the same Hard disk or get an extra one and run them separately (if it even makes a difference).

I will be overclocking at a later stage.
Will also buy additional ram/hard disk/dvd drive as soon as my bank balance recovers from this purchase.

You can install them both on the same hard drive with multiple partitions (what I did a while back) or you can install it on seperate hard drives... I don't think it makes a difference.

No need for additional RAM (yet) in my opinion... :)
 
Agreed on the ram WKJ:D The 32 bit OS's can only utilize 3.5gb MAX so it becomes a bit wasted.

As far as aftermarket cooling goes have you at all considered anything as of yet? I know you will only try later but my point is this...if your gonna go for the best cooler(thermalright ultra 120 extreme) it won't fit into that case. Just a thought though.

Well, he can overclock that Q6600 to 3.15GHz easily on stock cooling (as mentioned in the other thread) so I think aftermarket cooling will be overkill. But hey, looking at those specs you might want to consider overkill :D

Yup thats pretty much my thought! Awesome! Anyways Steennies any ETA on when this baby will be yours?

Oh and WKJ it sometimes really depends on what chip you get(and im not just talking G0 stepping).I have read a lot of guys with cooling systems galore which just about get a 3.2 ghz OC.It will prob also depend on the particular chip. But it will be nice to have a super cool system at a nice reasonable OC;)

I have an AMD 3800+ Single Core @ 2.4GHz and it doesn't like being overclocked... A nice crisp 42'C under load when overclocked but plenty of BSODs... :(
 
I'm trying to get a couple of quotes on the system and once thats done I'll go and buy it. So hopefully within the next 2 weeks.

it seems as if its a gaming pc

actually 4 gig ram then u should be able to do away with your page file

which should speed up the system
 
Well for what ts worth this was my next response.Thermaright has a smaller cooler called the ultima 90 which weighs about half of its big brother is shorter in height(2cm) and except for its big brother is probably the best little cooler out there! And its R200 cheaper than big brother!
Hehehe its funny how everything snowballs when you're buying computers!
 
I don't see why u guys are going on about Vista x64. I'm running it on my new Pc and it's working fine. I've got all the apps I had on XP and the advantage of full dx10. Fair enough you 're gonna lose some frames/sec in games but hey, SP1 should be out early next year.;)
