Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone with a plasma has problems with image retention when watching a movie with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio (letter box)?

If there are black bars at the top and bottom, does this cause a problem?

Or do you "zoom" to avoid the black bars?

I assume that will also happen if you watch 4:3 content on a plasma (vertical black bars will be shown) without stretching the image.

Thanks,
Greg

Well during the break in phase, yes I zoomed in as recommended, but now no I don't.

But yes I do get IR, but honestly couldn't care less. It goes away and is perfectly normal IMO.

As long as you don't leave it for 12 hours straight you are fine. Even then I doubt it would be a problem, especially if you have a newer plasma.

I had it my side.

Irritating - but temporary

Yes, black bars cause IR.

4:3 scales perfectly on my 1024x768 (but 16:9 - rectangular ;)) 42" plasma.

Have watched letterboxed movies without any IR.

Room is not too bright, therefore I can run my plasma at lower light settings, which probably accounts for the lack of any IR.
