Plasma redish sparkles when switched on???

Hi there audiophiles...lol.

My 42" Plasma LG eco something is now almost a year old...and already, when switched on, it has subtle redish sparkles on bright colors...what is that? I read somewhere, before buying it, that with time, the Plasma will have the static image/logo/icon of the TV channel it was last viewed on when you switch the TV on again...I've seen this numerous times and have tried to switch the DSTV to a channel with NO logo/icon but couldn't find any...

I normal switch the TV off at night as well as the DSTV, mostly at the power source on the wall...and switch it on again in the morning...then before we go to work I switch it off AGAIN at the power source in the wall for the entire day untill we get back at 5ish...

So what's causing this redish sparkles..they go away after a while, probably 20mins...don't mind if its DSTV or DVD...when you switch it on after its been off for a while...it has those redish sparkles.
 
What's this got to do with audiophiles? ;)

Not sure about the sparkles. Check out AVS forums.com and you should pick up something there. On the point of Image retention, your TV should have some sort of preventative measures in the system, like a screen wipe or something. Run that for a while if you have a persistent logo. Otherwise, it's best to watch something that doesn't have static images just to clear what you watched. I used to switch mine off as you do, but i noticed my decoder was packing up and my PS3 also didn't enjoy it, so i've stopped that. If you can get a picture of the red dots, take one and take it to the place you bought it from. It sounds like a power supply issue to me.
 
It's apparently not recommended to power your equipment down at the wall every single day - especially if you have an AMP and this causes damage, I used to power my LCD, DSTV and AMP at the wall before I goto bed and power up when I get back from work for viewing, the amp developed problems and when it was repaired they tech. recommended I don't shut them down at the wall, but rather place into standby mode.


I found info on google to back up his theory as well - AV forums to be precise.
 
Also did a little research, and what comes up most is a possible power supply problem. They should be able to tweak it, or replace and hopefully it'll be ok. Let us know what the outcome is.

Did you get this issue resolved ? I'm having the same thing happening to my LG 42" plasma.

We have a Sony at the office that does this so badly it's noticeable all the time. My Samsung did it but only a tiny bit and it was 4 years old.

U say 'did it ? did u have it fixed. Mine's about 4 years old now.

So to keep your AV working, you gotta waste some power? Damn
 
Bummer. I guess will be cheaper to get a new LCD instead of repair. do anybody know if the sparkles get worse . Does the Tv eventually die :(

Have you got a quote already? Just wondering if you know for a fact that it will be cheaper to replace instead of repair.

The only reason I replaced was because of an upgrade.

I have a Sansui that have the same problem except I see red and green dots for the first 10-20 min after switching on. What I have read on the net also suggest a problem with the power supply unit. Would be interested to know the cost of having this fixed...
 
I will let you know if they give me a quote. They also say on the net that this is a temporary solution ( adjusting voltage ). Does this mean plasma's has a shelf life of 4 -5 years ? That suc$ . when i bough it reports said up to 20 000 hours . even its on 8 hours a day that should last about 7 - 8 year.
