Does having no tuner and not being marketed as a "TV" have any impact?

Or none if you are running DSTV into it?

If you're "tuning" into anything with a telly that size and price you need your head read...

Media players, DSTV HD, BluRay players and gaming consoles or GTFO:)

I noticed that the price of this model is high compared to similar sized screen plasmas is this because of 3D? Which I am not too concerned about. Oh is there more to this than just 3D compared to other similar sized screen plasmas

Yip I'm sure it has something to do with 3D... Gimmick that pushes price up.

No doubt it's an amazing TV though.

Do check the PS50C550 though. Amazing price for 50" FHD plasma. May suit your needs just fine.

You should try out of town... I know a shop called AVG (043-7269325) in East London. I've noticed than many small-town shops have much better prices that the big-city shops. They should also be able to supply without a delivery charge as most of their suppliers could ship direct without charge.

Whatever you do, now is a good time before the government cartel start collection on those monitor super tax.

Seriously, what does Wagtales have to do with the OP's post?

That applies to PC LCDs etc. Not TVs. That monitor tax has already been added to TVs.

Eish why are so many people claiming this tax on TVs.
