currently on a FNB platinum, not much benifit I can see other than the interest rate, currently 8% on my overdraft.

used the premier banker on ocassion but can't say the service was very wow, currently looking at moving to Nedbank.

going to see who gives me better rates on my home then will bank with them :) not much keeping me at FNB....

2.5 % ebucks earned on swipes etc, i think gold only get 1% , though there is some requirements to get 2.5% last time i checked.

I don't see the difference between platinum and gold on the ebucks. On both you have a sliding scale of rewards, need to earn points each month, total of last 12 months determine where in the scale you are earning.

Here is the only scale that I can find on FNB website.
https://www.ebucks.com/web/eBucks/e...tners/financialpartners/fnbchequeaccounts.jsp
Code:
Reward level points Reward level eBucks earn percentage
up to 5 000 1 0.4%
up to 10 000 2 0.6%
up to 14 000 3 0.8% (maximum earn rate for Smart Cheque Accounts)
up to 16 000 4 1.2% (maximum earn rate for Gold, Islamic and Encore Cheque Accounts)
up to 18 500+ 5 2.5% (maximum earn rate for Platinum Cheque Accounts)

Here is a difference that I do find.
Ensure that you deposit a total of at least the following minimum amounts into your FNB Cheque Account each month:
Smart Cheque Accounts and Encore Accounts - R2 000
Gold Accounts and Islamic Cheque Accounts - R5 500
Platinum Accounts - R16 500 (Young Professional Accounts - R5 500)

So no idea what this 2.5% supposedly is.

What I think is that the waters are muddled by the different reward rates for cheque card and credit card
OP asked for the cheque card.

The 2.5% is just a higher potential eBucks earn rate for Platinum. You still need to be earning the points levels in your post. So the only reason to go from gold to platinum for eBucks is if you are earning more than 18500 points per year. Else it is cheaper and easier to be on gold and you lose nothing but gold is capped at a 1.2% earn rate. Generally the bump in earnings to 2.5% should over and above cover your increased banking costs.

So a quick example:
I calculated on Gold that for R8000 pm in spending you should get approx R96 in eBucks at a rate of 1.2%, which covers your bank fees.
On Platinum spending R8000pm earns you R200 in eBucks at rate of 2.5%, so you're making a profit.

I don't know, I don't earny any ebucks on my cheque account, because mostly I don't use it for much else than to dump my salary in to.

Where I do earn my ebucks is on my credit card, but I believe that is because my petro card is linked to the credit card instead of the cheque account. My monthly earning is usually 2500 to 2800 ebucks per month, which isn't too bad, considering that is worth R250, so every few months or so I buy myself a nice little present with that, like this month I got myself a nice Vertex 4 SSD from TakeItAll who accepts ebucks as a payment. Another month got myself the logitech harmony remote from onedayonly. Aslo about some tools from the ebucks shop to use at home for some DIY work.

I dunno if you get a personal banker with Platinum - only Private banking?

You get the separate call centre and I think they'll assist faster, but you don't have the dedicated banker AFAIK. Anyhow - the interest rate was far lower than my Gold. Pretty much the only thing I saw

yep you do, if you salary exceeds 600 000 or something

so two types of platinum - under 600 000 or something (call center)

over 600 000 or something (personal banker)

Thought it was something similar - but the card doesn't differentiate.

That's what I meant

The 2.5% is just a higher potential eBucks earn rate for Platinum.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but does anyone know what the differences are between the platinum and the private cheque account? Besides the additional monthly fee ...
I'm assuming higher e-bucks earning potential?

https://www.fnb.co.za/cheque-accounts/index.html

There are some changes like:
- Up to 100% back in eBucks on your Smart Device monthly subscription fee

And more, I am too lazy to go through that list 1 by 1 to compare, you should do that.

Have this account for over a year, and to me it's just more expensive. There are some small benefits, but none I have actually used.

Was offered an upgrade from platinum to private banking on my cheque account. Currently getting close on 11 000 ebucks per month on level 5. On private banking i will be struggling to maintain a level 3 reward rate. The reward rate fir Pvt clients is completely different to normal cheque account.

Due to the amount of traveling I've done this year my plat card has been a winner for the slow lounge alone. Other than that the higher ebucks earning and also the call centre has been good. In my experience worth the extra cost involved

Yeah, you get access to the premier suite. Takes me a minute to get through to a consultant, much quicker than the normal call center,. You can even request them to call you
