...out of boredom because there's absolutely nothing to do. Even after you've informed management you are asked to be patient as company is busy shuffling positions to be more effective.

What's the worst that could happen?

Sleeping when there's talk of restructuring is a NO-NO!!
Naah, not in that sense. Its more people being moved from one project to another, those kind of things. There's also been a bunch of new people starting so they're being settled in.

You're on the retrenchment list...

Why dont you ask if you can go on a course of some sort?

Well you could wake up feeling a little dazed with a painful yet warm and fuzzy feeling originating from your anus and one of your colleagues wryly smiling like they just got lucky. That's if you fall asleep at work. Playing games, I can't say really.

If you are a senior in your company and they cant do without you, and you are a hard worker then go for it.

Rather use the extra time studying or reading

It'll only happen in the new financial year which starts in april (I think) so that's out of the question.

And no, my company is quite open about retrenchments, etc.

Why not read? That's what I would do.

Pick up a copy (of each of the 6 volumes) and you're set for a while.
That's precisely why I created this thread, I was falling asleep while reading :D

Remind me never to apply where you work :p

Is the company website up to scratch?
That gets done by the boss himself (whom I might add, is fairly skilled).

Oh well, 30 more minutes of surfing the net...

Had the exact problem last year, spent 8 months doing absolutely nothing all day. My advice is to find another job as you are not doing your career any good. Also be aware that one can stagnate and become used to not doing anything.

Start a thread maintaining your car is the best ever. That'll keep you busy for a while.

You find another job that is actually challenging, then 4 years later you're working through the night because you have too much to do and not enough time to do it in :(

If you're too tired to work rather ask your boss if you can go home. Absolutely no reason to sleep at work.
