Ah, of course, the old X-Box HD-DVD drive for less than $200 story. *cough* bullsh!t *cough* No point in debating this kind of rumour, I think that the X-Box and PS3 will be able to compete on their merits without adding in conjecture. Here's a google challenge: Find a HD-DVD drive (hint: Toshiba and NEC make 'em), now find a price... now explain how Microsoft is going to sell it for $100.doobiwan said:@arf The basic difference between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is that BR has a higher capacity.
As a video format it doesn't really matter that much as the .mp4 compression used by both can fit a HiDef Movie on the size of a normal DVD, ie the scapacity is not a limiting factor for HD-DVD movies. (Data's a different story)
The 360 is getting an HD-DVD drive attachment very soon, to answer the PS3's BR. Rumour up till today was that it'd cost about $100 so 360 premium+ HD-DVD = PS3 20Gb.
However, after Microsoft just announed that there won't be a 360 price cut this year, a new rumours popped up that the $400 premium will have the HD-DVD drive bundled for free. As I said, a rumour.

nope.. not the case. the next gen consoles will support 1080i/50 and 1080i/60useless said:sadly there is a catch with those CRT telly's Doobi, the 1080i is @ 50hz... which is only good for possible HD broadcasts in PAL.
all next-gen consoles run HD @ 60hz... but check your TV to be double sure.![]()

sure you're not talking about this issue?useless said:@Arf999 - nope, sorry but it only runs @ 60hz in HD mode. I have a Samsung which also supports 1080i @ 50hz and the X360 only works in 60hz.
The X360 works by the US HD spec it seems and not by the PAL HD standard.
yeah, I think you're right. It seems that the XBox HD support IS broken. For all its faultsdoobiwan said:I find that odd, my telly specifically states support for 720p, and what about all the European CRT telly's, surely MS wouldn't alienate all of them?
I'd say Ms needs to patch the 360 rather than fixing the telly, considering it'd be easier to downgrade the output. Let's hope they do it for the ZA released 360 "Little birdies are saying something about September/October"
