PlayStation redesigns are always meh IMO. The originals (From PS2 onwards) always look great and the slim versions are always this bland rubbish.

The point is to save Sony money. With the evolution of fabrication processes and chips it eventually becomes cheaper to manufacture a new console with the latest techniques than to keep making the old one. That's why they're always smaller, because new processes will enable them to fit the same circuits on a smaller area.
