PlayStation 5 launch date announced

Sony has announced the official launch date for its upcoming PlayStation 5 console.

"Since we originally unveiled our next-generation console in April, we know that there’s been a lot of excitement and interest in hearing more about what the future of games will bring," Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said.

So December 2020 then.

Time to start saving.

A bit optimistic I think. I'd say 12k at a minimum. Hoping your ballpark is more accurate though :)

I would think you're looking at around R12 - R15k for the launch PS5... it will scale back to around R10k over the course of the year.

I've heard that they could launch one along side the standard console.

Where did you hear this? I very much doubt it, seeing as it should be far more profitable to launch a Pro version a year or two after original launch of PS5.

The most that would happen is similar to something that MS have hinted at is a disc based version and an online only version. The hardware playing the games will be identical.

If they get the hardware capabilities right this time around, then I wouldn't expect to see a Pro version this time around (though given the architectures of these generations, its a fair chunk easier to beef them up mid generation without impacting backwards compatibility)

The actual console better not look anything like that hideous (apparent) dev kit though
