PlayStation 5 launch date announced

It will be a complete sales failure if it breaches R9,999.

R15k would simply be ridiculous.
People fork out close to double that for a phone, which is typically a 3-4 year investment. A console will give you at least 7 years.

I don't think it will affect sales that badly TBH. You'll probably just see a lot more uptake in monthly payments, as it is with phones at the moment...

Where did you hear this? I very much doubt it, seeing as it should be far more profitable to launch a Pro version a year or two after original launch of PS5.
It was a rumor posted by someone who has been credible in the past about different versions of consoles, so may very well be true.

Was in the news a few weeks back, but ok, I admit it was a rumor

Sony to launch PS5 and PS5 Pro at the SAME TIME to rival Microsoft's Xbox Project Scarlett

Sony will launch two models of the PlayStation 5 (PS5), it has been alleged. The duo will be different in performance, with one being as a base model (PlayStation 5) for those wanting to side with the Japanese brand in the PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Project Scarlett battle on the cheap and a souped-up, high-end variant (PlayStation 5 Pro) for those after the absolute best it has to offer. Both should launch at the same time.

Just when that will be, however, remains unknown. There's been some chatter claiming that Sony could take the wraps off the PS5 — and now the PS5 Pro — as soon as the end of September 2019, but that seems a bit too far-fetched. Instead, we're inclined to side with the recent leak stating that "the future of Sony PlayStation" will be unveiled at a dedicated "PlayStation Meeting 2020" event on February 21, 2020.

To be clear, there's little-to-no evidence supporting the rumour that Sony will release two models of the PlayStation 5 at the same time. The tidbit comes from reliable journalist Zenj Nishikawa, who was reportedly told at developer conference CEDEC that "Sony executives are launching two PlayStation models that are different in their performance." So best take the information with a pinch of salt — for now, at least.

Wouldn't make business sense to launch both at the same time. Nobody will buy the Pro when the normal machine is already going to be pricey. And mid-gen the hardware will already be dated.

When the cost of the PS5 starts falling, they'll probably launch the Pro at a higher price, with newer hardware, like they did this gen...

You underestimate the greediness of our retailers (and Ster Kinekor, if they still hold the distribution license) as well as the gullibility of those who just HAVE to have it on launch day or shortly thereafter.

I don't think they do anymore because I've SK marketing XBox games now at cinemas.

Greed is exactly why they wouldn't over price it.

But I guess we'll see soon enough.

They've always done a variety of software for both fields, but only Playstation on the hardware front.

However it's no longer SK but now rolled into a different company (with the same owners) called Gamefinity.

I hope, it gives me enough time to save, now for local pricing ($ x 2 = ZAR Pricing) :crying:
Oh yeah Nu Metro has the distribution rights. Will be interesting to see how they price it if the Xbox releases internationally at the same price point

Most people get phones on contracts so they don't look at the pure cash price.

No, Gamefinity does which is really just SK with a different collar.

Hence the second part of my comment. It's the same thing that people will do when consoles start getting too expensive.

A PS5 for R699 pm sounds a lot more affordable than R14,999

A ps5 for r899 pm with a 100gb lte package sounds even better....

Damn we've just given the cellular operators a new marketing avenue.

How long after the international launch was the PS4 released in South Africa?
