PlayStation dominating Xbox in SA

South African gamers seem to prefer Sony’s PlayStation over Microsoft’s Xbox, though the games consoles’ distributors have declined to reveal their exact market share.

Statcounter’s console operating system market share in South Africa in the last 12 months shows PlayStation sitting at 94.54%, while Xbox is at 5.56% for July 2022.

I have to admit, I prefer the Xbox.

Why?

For Multimedia etc, the playstation is fantastic. Also you can download movies and watch it on it, not so on the Playstation.

Price wise, also the Xbox.

And their game specials are way better. Paid R100 for Fifa 22 the other day on their store. Paid R15 for 3x months ultimate subscription. And I like that there are both classic and new games. Backwards compatibility too.

But thats just me.

Ah, I play with a mouse and keyboard too and it just works. Great for fortnite.

I suspect Statcounter has a flaw in their methodology.

And how would they distinguish Xbox hardware traffic from general Xbox traffic also going to PC??

Growing up in the 90s we had PS and PS2. Granted it was basically the only console available

But when I was deciding between PS3 and Xbox 360, the cheaper price point nudged me towards the Xbox and I've been in the Xbox camp since

PS has some great exclusives but I prefer the Xbox experience, and GamePass is a no-brainer

As a owner of all 3 consoles, Xbox Series X, Series S, PlayStation 5….. I love my series S for a tiny machine it packs a punch. Love that I can install retroarch on the Xbox Consoles. Game pass just means value for money as well. PS5 is good but nothing to write home about. Found the dual sense controller features a bit gimmicky.
