Please explain VDSL connection to Exchange to MSAN

According to Mickey, this is how it works, but I have a few questions regarding the connectivity of it.

If you are connected to the thinking part then you need to hope for two things...
1. In some cases Telkom are linking SDCs (the blue/green boxes) to a MSAN or,
2. In some cases they are combining multiple SDC areas with a single MSAN.

i.e. they will change the path of your copper cable connection from your modem to the exchange.

old route: modem - DP - SDC1 - DSLAM

new route: modem - DP - SDC1 - MSAN
or
new route: modem - DP - MSAN

*very simplified

I am about 760m from my exchange and currently run on 20mb/s adsl2+. I have noticed in the last week they installing a MSAN about 500m from the exchange, which makes me about 1.2km from MSAN. My question is will the MSAN be connected to Exchange via fiber or will they run fiber from all the nearest SDC boxes to connect to new MSAN. Or will only the people where the existing SDC is connect to the MSAN. Can the MSAN operate on its own or must it be connected to the Exchange.

If it's running separately from the exchange will they connect me straight to new MSAN or won't it not be possible. If they do indeed run the fiber from Exchange to MSAN will this affect my distance to the MSAN as I will be about 1.2km away instead of 760m to the exchange. Since it's running fiber between the 2, will I get the speeds as if I'm running from the MSAN or the 1.2km distance.

If they do not replace the SDC then there is a copper cable between the MSAN and the SDC.

In the Telkom configuration that MSAN on the street in an established area cannot operate on its own.

There will be an MSAN in the exchange as well - you will probably be connected to that one.

The term "exchange" is outdated. Now it simple describes a central point for different types of equipment.

Thanks for the heads up Mickey, so maybe the MSAN in the "exchange" is already active for vdsl perhaps. I should ring them up and hear what they say.

In my case, what you saying is that copper is already running from my sdc to the new MSAN at the exchange.

Why would they install a new MSAN on a corner 500m from the exchange. There is a business park area opposite the new area where they going to install the new MSAN. Is it because of the businesses perhaps or for the residents in the area.
 
Let me explain via this diagram, which shows a typical cable layout in an exchange area:

You are on the right and are connected to an MSAN back at the "exchange". All that happened was that they moved your physical line from the DSLAM to the MSAN inside the 'exchange'. No cables were replaced - all copper.

The businesses are in the blue circle. Due to whatever reasons (mostly financial, service quality and distance related) Openserve has decided to install an MSAN nearby in order to provide them with a better service.

They will replace the SDC3 with an MSAN. From that MSAN to the 'exchange' they will replace the old copper cable with an optic fibre cable. (Pink) From the MSAN to the customers the old copper will remain in place. This is what they mean by "shorten the copper length", as the shorter the copper cable, the better the service.

40Mbps.

But it distance dependant (and also on the quality of your copper cable connection)... At 1.2km away, you will probably get a stable 16Mbps but can push for 20Mbps if your connection is great -- with no guarantee of a stable service.
