please help me fix my laptop sound

I have this model

HP ProBook 6360b using Windows 7 Proff 64-bit

The sound works through the laptop speakers just fine. But it has never worked through the earphones.

I've tried checking the default settings, reinstalling the drivers but nothing seems to work :( I've googled and the main culprit is just people not selecting the default sound device. I have noticed that when trying to click DEFAULT DEVICE on the headphones device it doesnt register that.

Can anyone help? Coz I give up... :cry:

Try a pair of working headphones then post back here if that fails.
 
The volume of the headphone connection- is it linked to the universal volume or does it have its own volume control option? Perhaps that could be the problem.

Right click on your volume icon in the taskbar, go to "Volume control options" and check from there.

one on the LEFT clearly says headphones and one on the RIGHT clearly says speakers
 
I have a song playing in media player but as you can see the sound is being pushed through to the wrong device even though I have earphones plugged in??

If I try click default device below, or right-click and choose default device NIKS!!
 
Have you tried disabling the internal sound device?? The internal is still set to default, try disable that then set the headphones to default
 
Was about to say disable the laptop speakers . . .
 
Have you checked the soundcards front end interface?
Is it working correctly?
When you plug normal speakers in does it register that speakers are plugged into the audio jack?
It may be that the software is confused and not swapping devices correctly.
Update your soundcard software.

According to the HP site there is NO software, so I assume that when you download and install the latest audio driver it does that as well. There is an icon on my taskbar called...

but to answer your question, when I plug stuff in and out there is no response/feedback from the taskbar/software etc etc

I think that is the problem.
I had this exact issue a few weeks back on an asrock mobo.
It would not recognize my headphones in the front panel until I'd plugged them into the back panel.

Im on a laptop so I dont have another option :(
 
google for a program called drivereasy. I have had a similar thing with HDMI audio and it was an outdated sound driver, this software will detect if your sound driver needs an update, a lot of the time whats on the manufacturers website is still an old driver
 
"Communication Headphones" keeps looking odd to me. I'm guessing they have a mic and for some reason your notebook is assuming you want to use the mic on the headphones and the sound out on the actual notebook.

Have you tried playing with the settings in that SRS Premium Sound application?
 
What if you uninstall all of the drivers and use the Windows drivers instead? I'm not 100% skilled in this sort of diagnosis so I'm just throwing darts in the dark here...
