Since the words comprehend and comprehension have been wiped off the face of the earth, please help me read for meaning.

Back Story:
When I applied last week for travel insurance the policy stipulated the ticket had to be purchased 48 hours prior to taking out insurance. My ticket was bought 3 weeks ago so I asked the agent if I would be covered.

This is her reply,
"In this case as the client has already paid for flights, and if they have to cancel for an unnamed/unspecified reason (not one of the listed cancellation reasons below) then there would be no cover for the flights. However, if they do take out a TIC policy with the unspecified events cancellation cover at an extra R100 and also pay for additional costs towards their trip, then these only will be covered under this benefit if again the cancellation reason is unnamed falling under the unspecified events cancellation."

I get the flights aren't covered and paying an extra R100 but what's she talking about "pay for additional costs towards the trip" blah, blah, blah.

Do you understand what she's saying? Maybe it's insurance speak?

Gonna phone her anyway but just wanted input from you guys.

No idea what they are on about but not seeing how the timeline is relevant.

Who is this insurance with and why isn't your credit card and/or medical aid not just covering it by default? There is very little need to specially get travel insurance if you have those in play.

Pretty much agree with @SauRoNZA , sounds like bull.

But if I read it, they won't cover the original tickets except certain conditions , however they will cover any further purchases ( upgrades, etc, new flight ) made after that purchase. Seems weird to me, never seen that with Travel Insurance.

Additional costs would be like hotel bookings, car hire etc.
If you take the tic policy add on, then you can cancel flights for any reason but even then your hotel costs are only covered for events in their list of reasons.

Strongly disagree.

There are plenty of reasons why travel insurance offerings exist out there that are not grouped in with the bottom‐of-the-barrel "included at no extra cost" kind.

I read it as:

Read the "below" whatever that says. That will be covered.
Extra R100 unnamed (not in "below" list") will also be covered.

Or she is summoning a damned spirit from hell's legal department.

Insurance company is called Travel Insurance Company and I am covered by Credit Card but was going for a top-up.

Think I'll give it a miss.

Thanks for this.

Cant imagine dealing with them if I have to claim. Think I'll stick with standard credit card cover.
