Hey guys. So I got a call from the insurance company that my claim has been rejected because the scratch looks too long. One of the places that I got a quote from emailed this picture to the insurance company (as requested by them). To be honest the scratch is pretty long.

They cover scratches no longer than 15cm. So my plan is to make it either look like 2 scratches of length about 15cm, or 3 scratches of around 15 cm. The insurance company told me that I should email them a picture of me holding up a ruler against the scratch.

My idea is this. Take another picture of only the scratch, making sure not to get any other car details in the picture (so no wheels or lights in the picture). I then photoshop it to the desirable effect. I would appreciate advice on the matter. Fsck these guys, they are always trying to rip a person off. They will rather cover a neglegent driver than someone that is a victim of crime.

Oh, and because they ALREADY have a reference picture it makes things a little trickier. As in I can't change the shape of the line.

Dude, insurance fraud is a crime and if they catch you out, the insurers could lay criminal charges against you and cancel your insurance.

What happens if they ask you to take a polygraph (lie detector) test ?

You could end up not being able to get insurance anywhere. Do you really want all this trouble if you get found out ?

Maybe you can ask them what they will be prepared to pay based on a 15cm scratch and you cover the rest ?

Their response will be R0. The retarded part is that if there was a small but deep scratch then they would have covered R2500. Obviously they would prefer to pay nothing. I am going to phone Toyota and see if I can cancel this policy. fsck.

I guess I will just have to fork out to fix it myself.

Lol, no. Just now they get a contact to inspect the car in person. Then I am in big ***. The guys quoted R2k to have it done via insurance, maybe it will be cheaper if I do it out of pocket. I am hoping no more than R1k.

I am also very worried that it will look 1000% worse if they do a bad job. I mean the panel could end up with a difference color / texture. Dang, my car JUST turned 6 months old today. :(

I agree that insurance fraud is a bad idea but polygraph is inadmissible as evidence in any type of legal setting (criminal or otherwise). Even if you take it and they claim you are lying or you refuse to take it (which you may), it's the same. The only reason to do a polygraph is to ascertain whether to proceed with investigation in order to find admissible evidence (IE. the original pictures).

You do good work! ;)

Fraud aside, what the hell are they saying about not repairing scratches over a certain length...WTF happens if you are side swiped!!?

Time to change Insurance Companies methinks!

I don't think that's the full insurance policy; sounds like the scratch and scrapes insurance policy they used to keep trying to sell to me.

EDIT: Those are pointless, as I think they have more exclusions than anything else. Also, they claim to be aimed at women, which pisses me off and makes me determined not to support a company that tries to push it.

100%. To be honest I didn't even know that I had this insurance. I found out when they sent me a letter in the mail. I am thinking that I either got it as part of the autoarmor option that I opted for when I purchased my car, or Toyota swindled me into getting it. I should probably find out. Maybe I can get refunded because I sure as ass didn't sign up for it. Would also explain why my payments are a little higher than I expected.

like this?

I figured with more scratches they will feel sorry for you

fdaniels: Definitely check it out. Unlikely that you were getting this for free. Unless they have paperwork showing that you signed up for it (and a clause somewhere in there that you did not expressly agree to is not good enough), demand that they refund you for the last 6 months' payments. might not be much (think the monthly premium is under R100), but it's something. Should help towards fixing the scratch.
Also, I suggest you do not submit the edited pics (which are good; nice job there, Keeper and Pooky). They may be getting a report from the panelbeaters as well, and record of a fraudulent claim on your insurance record is a bad thing (higher premiums, more skepticism if you ever do claim, etc).

Don't worry, he won't. I have already forwarded this thread topic to all Major Insurance companies, to be on the lookout for fraudulent activity.

No worries guys. I was just seething when I got to work this morning. This pictures ARE awesome though. I am showing it to all of my friends and family. :D

On a more serious note - don't do anything deceptive/illegal. Rather give them grief about that shtty 15cm rule. I mean wtf.
