Don't worry too much, in case you were more worried now because it broke the first time you used it. It's unlikely that handling normally with care (and not dropping it, etc.) and installing and connecting all connectors correctly would cause damage to a modern PSU.

What case have you got?

Yeah I am pretty nervous after the last ordeal. I have got a gigabyte case I will try to find model number, the psu slot is in the top.

Okay, then mount the PSU with its 120mm fan facing down. Try keep the cables neat, tie unused ones together to minimise obstruction of airflow.

OK thanks, Just a quick one does it matter how I connect the hdd power eg there is 6 connectors for the hdd but I have 2 hdd's but does it matter if I use connector 2 & 4 ? also there is two 4 pin CPU connectors does it matter which one I use?

No doesn't matter which power connectors you use. Plug which ever CPU 4-pin that fits, or plug in both if there's space for two (not always necessary).

I've been having probs with my pc and just tried my 450watt psu again with a n ew rig and it also tripped the electricity and now its dead. Can a faulty psu cause a mobo or cpu to go?

It's possible. What cord/plug are you using? 3 prong?

Best to take the PC out of the case and build it on top of something softish (like a magazine) with an anti static mobo bag between. Once PSU is connected you'll need to short the 'PWR ON' jumpers on the mobo's FPANEL jumpers with a screwdriver (which connects to the front panel on/off switch). That'll jump start the PSU, since you have no power button outside a case.

Yea the 3 prong. Thanks ill give that a try. What about testing it with a multimeter?
