Please help!!! Somebody or something is stealing my CAP!!!

One last thing - if Zonealarm picks up nothing, then you have two choices :

1. Format and install
2. Install a dedicated firewall to monitor requests (usually an extra PC to monitor incoming/outgoing requests made from your PC to the router).

A Person installs P2P and then wonders where their cap is going? There's a price to pay for everything.

If i were you i'd first try and find what is downloading it might be something stupid and then you are doing al kinds of unnecessary steps to get it off
secondly keep the pc offline if you have a backup pc use that one to get the necessary applications
Like Budza said use Zone alarm to check what is downloading
And if it looks like a suspicious site block it with your firewall
Personally i get very paranoid with downloads on my pc which i don't know what it is for

Instead if listening to all this waffle.
I would have unplugged the router RJ11 cable / or switched off the device about 2 hours ago.

Then phoned your ISP support line - and recieved some assistance.

Sitnet, Rather change your router password and then your Internet connection password, then restart modem and dial up. IF that doesn't work then you got a lovely virus. With your limewire/torrents close the program after usage so u dont upload ur cap in a day.

zonealarm to see what is eating ur cap then see if you can stop it. Really else u better just format and start again

i need to get telkoms records still to investigate our 4gig disappearance.

What Wayne means is he is still trying. How long have you been waiting for?

no sorry what i meant was we have not had the time yet to do it. we need a case number and a bunch of stuff.

mine is also fishy bru......i go to like not more than 10 websites, half are local,,,,and the next thing i know i got 100 megs downloaded and uploaded together...i have a feeling its either, telkom taking more of of my bandwidth to finish it faster so i'll have to buy more...or the websites are requiring more bandwidth to go into.

telkom setting ur internet to use more is very much possable. i mean they getting away with charging twice for the same bandwidth anyways aswell as other isp's.

OK but I already used netlimiter monitor to see and it says it is explorer.exe and alot of ip adresses listed under it,

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=145583

your pc is part of a botnet

the actual explorer.exe file on your pc is clean. what this virus does is loads itself into the memory space of explorer.exe that's why netlimiter is reporting it as making all the connections.

i first tried to get rid of it by blocking all addresses that the infected process was connecting to, but after some time it started generating new target machines, so i eventually took care of it by using outpost pro firewall.

it will prompt you to block most suspicious operations including network ports, registry settings and windows shell commands.

Thanx for everyones support!!! :)

I got the problem fixed after some research, I used hijackthis and found the cause, it was some weird servers or something, after I deleted them it was one of those EUREKA!!! moments as finally the light stoped flickering!!!! All is now back to normal again.

I know this is a bit late but I found that sometimes you can open a dos windows and type: netstat -b -n <enter> and you can usually find the culprit program that is still connecting to the internet.

Why don't you post the app/server thing/ whatever it was so someone can tell you what it was?
