Any reason it needs to be a Pi specifically? If it needs to be 5volt then sure, Pi is the way to go.
However, I recently had a 12volt AMD GX that cost me a lot less and offer way better performance.

Arduino is also a great 5v platform. I built a CNC controller for a desktop milling machine with it.

When they get stock it goes quick. I bought a 4GB two weeks ago, so they are getting stock in. Just be patient. PiShop is the cheapest as they're not trying to sell you a bundle, you can get just the Pi and that's like R1200 a few weeks ago

eBay would be your best bet. I got mine from the USA but they are popular in Germany and the UK.
