Please recommend a tablet

This one seems to be in your budget range. I bought my mother one of these and it seems nice. Takealot reviews are also mostly positive. You probably don't want anything smaller than the 10 inch one which is the standard size you think of when you want a tablet.

Local is expensive.
Besides being expensive, african market is a dumping ground for old stock, and the overall specs of devices aren't that great. At one point MTN was flogging a entry samsung tablet with android 4 up to early 2020. The overall specs is lackluster.Better CPU means nothing if you don't have the storage and ram to go with it.

Yeah no, for the same price excluding the shipping you can get a teclast P20HD with 4 gig ram and 64gig rom. Okay hard to get stock of that lately as the P30HD replaced it. And the screen res is a no go.

M40s just about beats it in every category. GPU is perhaps on the weaker side. But the T610 beats the T310 of the rizzen in raw performance easily. 8 cores vs 4 cores. Android 11 vs android 11 go.Sure shipping is a hassle but if you are patient enough with imports you can do so much better. For the specs of the rizzen it is over priced, more likely a 1.6K ish tablet.

Yeah that does seem like much more of a bargain. I personally don't know enough about importing and pricing to try it for myself, especially the shipping part and how safe that is. I imagine that customs will add their 10% customs duties and SARS will add their 15% VAT on top of that.

It depends, If you ship via buffalo it is duty free. Buying from sunsky you only paying for item + shipping. Takes two - three weeks, and it is completely safe. With amazon you will get it within a week, but you end up paying custom plus a healthy item mark up.

I suggest you give it a shot with a 5$ or 10$ item of some thing you need or want and see how the process is done. That way you will gain some experience. I have never had any issues with either sunsky or gearbest. But had plenty of issues with ebay.

With sunsky and gearbest you can pay via paypal, which offers you an extra layer of protection, with a money back if you don't get your order. Bit of a hassle to get a paypal account setup, with a free FNB online banking profile but once that is done it is a breeze and you can easily fund your account without issue.

Can I use a South African VAT number? If not, what should I use?

iPad or nothing. Don't waste money.

Agreed the lower end tablets are terrible on the performance front unless you just want to watch movies / series.

Either save up for a proper android tablet or get an older IPAD.

Dude it's like saying don't buy nvidia cause they just want money. Each device has their merits and usage. Why don't you for a change be a neutral party, and consider the use case. So what if someone is just going to do X or Y on their device. A little consideration is appreciated. So get over it already some people like android and some like apple.

Why is it a waste of money. When last have you actually looked at the specs of android tablets for their price point. Doogee released their T10 at the start of the month and while it isn't as fast as apple, but it kicks some serious ass for 2.6k for the launch price. How much is an apple ipad with 8gig ram and 128gig rom.

A year or so ago. Absolute waste of money unless you can find a used galaxy tab or something. Don't know why tablets are so low specd.

Rather get an ultrabook or air or something. But so pricey.

Most Chinese tablets target mid range and they all mention it especially teclast, with the exception of xiaomi and huawei, which on the top end, beats apple but it is going to cost you a cool 15-20k. But they are specced outed, 256gig -512gig rom is uncommon. If you want you can buy a decent tablet in the android stable, that beats out apple any day of the week.

The thing is the price performance of the mid range tablets is half the price/performance of apple entry and they aren't slow pokes by any means, with all of them able to run PUBG, asphalt and the likes without too much issue, and while apple may last longer because of being faster, in two years I can just buy another tablet and still wouldn't have spend as much as on a single apple device, plus you can pass along the old device to family or whatever.

I have a Teclast M20 that is still going from 2018 and now a teclast P20HD both sporting 4gig ram and 128gig and 64 gig rom respectively. 1920 x 1080 screen, with a machined back metal body. It's sturdy with very little flex. Does youtube, and all the other video stream apps, albeit missing widewine support, it isn't going to make that a huge a difference watching SD content on a small screen. Additionally, camera and sound in general is just okay, you don't need a 50mp camera some have light sensors some don't, you do forgo some comforts. Teclast recently moved over to incell displays, without too much of a price increase. The screens have all been of really good quality, but suffered from older screen technology which has made then most unusable in super bright conditions up to now.

With the new displays, have 300 nits compared to apple 9th gen at 500 nits. So for the price point/performance they aren't bad at all.

@wizardofid How easy would it be to do a warranty claim with these Chinese tablets?

No idea, never had to do it. IDK smart phones and tablets, in my experience with the teclast and such rarely if ever fail before warranty runs out, more often than not they will break because of the user. The PCB is so small and so little components on it, unlikely to fail, battery issue perhaps, screen failure not likely as well. The odds that you will need to return a device is low.

Are you and Epah the same person? .....you have changed.
I don't own any apple products, but honestly have not seen anything that can match an apple tablet. In my view it is the only device that is ever worth calling a tablet. The other gimmicks are next to useless compared to the ipad. Sure they have some kind of use, but pretty pathetic in terms of spec and performance. Android also love resources and space, which most of them don't have.

Firstly, that's 2 tablets. Secondly, that looks to be above my price limit. Thirdly, I'm looking for something a little easier to live with. ;)

Panado

Edit

Damnit didn't see someone beat me to it :ROFL:

Please recommend a tablet for up to R3,500. It will be used for browsing, reading, and viewing Google docs and spreadsheets. Preferably available locally, but an import would also be ok.
If you really don't want to import, look at this
